Extendo is a beginner trail constructed by the FOTW Trail Crew in conjunction with students from the Center for Technology in Essex. Very buff, fast singletrack with great flow. A few nice way to warm up!
Our 80+ miles of trails would not exist were it not for the generous landowners who allow us to use their property, both public and private. No technical part to speak of. The trails are characterized as classic smooth and flowy singletrack. The only downside is that it is very popular, so it can get crowded at times. Park at the end of Saxon Hill Rd off Rt 15. There is also a jump line if you feel like grabbing more air. Saxon Hill mountain bike trail map. I can be ridden slowly by a beginner or faster by more advanced riders the second section climbs steeply and descends sweetly. Upper trails rocked, lower trails were a bit sandy/spongy, some low hanging branches, could use some maintenance. Quite unfortunate the landowner issues have caused most of it to remain closed. I heard that all of it is closed! The Saxon Hill trail network in Essex is a classic. Great smooth, flowy trails on soft, sandy soil through the pines. A very well maintained trail by the FOTW, and I believed sponsored by Earl's Cyclery & Fitness. I'll gladly head back to see the rest!I spent 2 days on this trail and very good if you are with your beginner girl friend, at least she is not bad at you at the end of the day.
Enjoy.Flo and Freeflo are open and that was some fun XC downhill and worth the climb; especially for a second pass. Something for ALMOST everyone. Very well maintained trails with some nice features. The is a third loop off the top of the second which has a steep climb and more technical descent. Do not enter the private road because the gate is closed at 5PM and no way out. Then up to the old (radio tower?) Roadside Marine - Williston, VT. Or buy one directly from VAST and have it mailed to you.. This includes traveling to and from parking areas, activity in parking lots, and use of the trails. Better trails around for technical freaks but a good exercise. You must access Flo via the dirt road, then ATV trail.
For information on trails being closed, I'd ask FOTW - they sure looked ridden to me... fast and buff! From beginner flowy trails, to serious gap jumps, with even some relatively techy descents here and there.Tag a trail, bike, and/or a category.Absolutely love Saxon Hill. Smooth trails with fun lengthy bridges and the occasional fun drop or ledge. Saxon will keep riders of all types entertained. This immensely popular network is home to the Flo, FreeFall, and Extendo trails. The Saxon Hill trail network in Essex is a classic. And the lower pines can serve as a great cool down or mellow ride for beginners.Lots of bridges!! **Update** Note that due to land-owner issues, all of the lower trails at Saxon Hill are CLOSED for riding.

This place is definitely suited for rides of all experience. Oh yeah, this place is actually located in Essex, not Burlington for those who are curious.Perhaps the Sweetest trail in Vermont, even giving Kingdom Trails in East Burke a run for their money.
